.Project Spotlight: Ground-Up New Construction on Gold Street, South Boston

As one of the best builders and home remodelers in Boston, Abacus Builders and General Contractors often find ourselves working on projects in the same neighborhoods for years, building strong relationships with abutters and like-minded residents. 231 Gold Street is our second major project on this street, following the success of our previous development.

This vacant lot had been underutilized for years, and with Boston’s ongoing housing shortage, we saw an opportunity to bring much-needed residential space to the area. We designed a two-family structure over a parking garage, which was not only the most aesthetically pleasing solution but also the most practical use of the land.

The project progressed smoothly, thanks to favorable soil conditions that allowed for easy foundation work. Our framing crew and roofing company quickly made the building weather-tight, and the entire construction process took about 10 months to complete.

The building features two unique units:

  • Unit 1: A two-bedroom unit with one deeded parking space in the garage.
  • Unit 2: A spacious duplex with two deeded parking spaces. This unit also boasts a front-facing deck with stunning city views, perfect for enjoying South Boston’s vibrant atmosphere.

Step by step, we’re transforming this once run-down street into a welcoming neighborhood for future residents—one of the many ways we give back to the South Boston community.
