Project Spotlight: High-End Remodeling and Renovation at 332 Shawmut Ave, South End, Boston

Abacus Builders and General Contractors had the privilege of completing a high-end partial full gut remodel at 332 Shawmut Ave, located in the heart of Boston’s historic South End. Known for its stunning rows of brownstone homes, the South End is one of the city’s most sought-after neighborhoods for luxury home remodeling and renovation projects, and this project was no exception.

After a competitive bidding process, Abacus was hired to bring new life to this four-story brownstone. The project involved a complete full gut renovation across all four floors, including an extensive kitchen remodel on the ground floor. The result is a perfect fusion of modern luxury and South End historic charm.

A standout feature of this South End renovation was the construction of a custom roof deck, which included a Dayliter access door—a popular choice in Boston remodeling for its value and sleek design. The deck was finished with Ipe 2×2 tiles and a handrail system approved by the Boston Historic Commission, blending seamlessly with the architectural heritage of the neighborhood.

Inside the home, Abacus renovated 3.5 bathrooms, all featuring luxury finishes suited for a South End home remodel of this caliber. The custom chef’s kitchen was outfitted with integrated appliances, and original details such as the home’s historic moldings were carefully replicated. We partnered with Anderson & McQuaid in Cambridge, a trusted resource for high-quality molding materials, to match the original craftsmanship of the building.
